CA$200.00

Dimensions: 12 x 12 x 1
Inspiration:: How to be with whales? It is almost impossible. Scientists sight whales from shore, from boats, from drones. They listen to whales on hydrophones. They collect tissue samples, poop samples and try to interpret their squeaks and songs. They have studied them inside and out and still we know hardly anything. Sometimes, not knowing is OK. Sometimes just being alongside a being is enough.
Materials and Process:: Limited edition print (1/10) of an original watercolour, mounted on cradleboard, wax finish.
Custom Value Q: Concerto for Whale and Organ by Paul Winter (with Roger Payne-- lead whale scientist)

CA$500.00

Dimensions: 24 x 29 x 0.5
Inspiration:: Reiner (the Malamute) and Ariat (the Akita/chow) were found by my daughter, Dani, through the SPCA. "Reiner and Ariat" is a textile post card of a gloriously windy day at a favourite lake. Through all the motion, our doggie-friends sit side-by-each, content as they are wont to be, a picture of mindfulness. They are still -- enjoying life, as only dogs can. This piece, begun when Dani was alive, has become an important heirloom for it is a celebration of her love and zest for Life.
Materials and Process:: The piece is based on a photograph that I took. The textile piece use fused appliqué, curved piecing, and free-motion quilting play a role in creating movement in the piece.
Custom Value Q: It's a Wonderful World- Louis Armstrong
