Dave studied photography at the Banff Centre and printmaking at Ground Zero Printmakers and MISSA (Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts) and is a member of PRINT, the Victoria Society of Print Artists and Victoria Arts Council. As an active member of the Victoria arts community for many years, Dave has served as Executive Director of MISSA and as a board member with organizations including Theatre SKAM and MISSA.
StatementEight years ago I picked up a gouge and carved my first piece of lino and immediately became hooked on the physical aspect of the tool use and the simplicity of the materials.
In my work I draw primarily from visual clues and patterns of my every day natural and built surroundings. I am fortunate to share the fabulous Cecelia Press Studio in Victoria with two talented artists and have access to a large press and a fully equipped printmaking studio. Much of my practice is very low tech and portable, however, allowing me to create small work in remote locations or when travelling.
