Statement

Kathy Guthrie’s artworks emerge from processes of exploration and experimentation, taking the form of two-dimensional works on paper, mylar and board, as well as installation work that incorporates photo transfers, objects and lettering. Educated in graphic design and calligraphy, Kathy began her career as a lettering artist, and her work has since evolved to encompass a mixed media approach that includes collage, watercolour and acrylic painting techniques. Her sensitivity to textures and surfaces is evident in her works thin layers of painting techniques application and washes of colour over arrangements of handmade papers, letters and personal items, creating misty images that suggest the language of emotions and memory.
