Statement

Art manifests a way of expressing my emotional connection with people, nature. or objects.

When I paint or sketch I prefer to work from life. However, I will use my own photo references which tend to distort the colour range in the white and shadow areas.

I will start a sketch or painting rapidly approaching the surface with line, making marks filling in different areas to create shapes. As the shape develops the form of the object appears. With the lights and darks in place I will focus and build up one area and realize I need to create the rest of the story. Moving around the surface I finish building the forms until everything resembles what I want it to be. The colours will need to reinforce the shapes and forms to mimic or resemble the subject. This is when many colours will appear. Highlights complete the expression.
